Paulo Renato Mesquita Pellegrino is a Landscape Architect and Urban Planner, and a Senior  Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of São Paulo. He has been in the proposition of innovative designs that deals with the development of landscape synthesis that could contribute to enhance the performance of multifunctional spatial arrangements, that allows the treatment and recovery of ecosystems in addition to the symbolic dimensions of landscapes.  This approach can be seen in watershed plans, recovery of degraded areas, parks and public squares, managed from the perspective that landscapes are not just extensive material artifacts, but complex systems analogous to living organisms, exhibiting many of the same characteristics. This emerging vision of designing landscapes based on infrastructure systems adapted to flows and metabolisms, combining technological, morphological and ecological systems, can turn design activity strategic for a greater resilience of our cities and regions.
