Renato Pereira de Souza

Renato Pereira de Souza has experience in phylogenetic analysis and the study of the molecular evolution of arboviruses, hantaviruses and arenaviruses, developing research in molecular epidemiology using phylogeography and viral phylodynamics. He interested in arbovirus, hantavirus and arenavirus ecology, geographic distribution of vectors and vertebrate hosts and the use ecological niche modeling to predict disease distribution. He has been working with the co-evolution process between virus and mammalian hosts, primarily between rodents and rodent borne viruses (hantavirus and arenavirus) and is also interested in understanding the ecological, virological and molecular factors behind the emergence of new viruses and the process of sharing pathogens between animals and humans and the integration between viral genomic data and the ecological features of hosts and vectors. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a PhD in Epidemiology. He is currently a Scientific Researcher in the Adolfo Lutz Institute at Taubaté, SP, Brazil.
