Carlos Alfredo Joly is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Campinas, a member of the Brazilian Academy of Science and of the Academy of Science of the State of São Paulo. Worked many years with Plant Ecophysiology, but since 1995 has increasingly moved towards biodiversity conservation and science-police interface. His main focus of interest has been in the altitudinal gradient of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, leading the Functional Gradient of Atlantic Forest (FGAF) Long Term Ecological Research Program site. More recently he has focused on the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem services with human well-being, working with the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services/IPBES and leading the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services/BPBES.
