Júlia Rodrigues Barreto
Postdoctoral Team
Júlia holds a BSc in Biological Sciences (UFF and Lancaster University), an MSc and PhD in Ecology (UFLA and USP), and an MBA in Data Science (USP/Esalq). Her research has examined how landscape structure, forest cover, fire, and anthropogenic disturbance shape ecological processes in tropical forests and their consequences for biodiversity, ecosystem services, and human health — work that has spanned field experiments, large-scale database compilation, and the coordination of international research networks. Along the way, she has grown interested in the dialogue between ecological science and governance instruments of the relationship between societies and the environment.
At Biota Synthesis, she investigates the pathways between scientific knowledge production and environmental policy. On one front, examining whether and how the composition of biodiversity synthesis groups and their scientific outputs reach policy. On a second front, in collaboration with the CRBE (Université de Toulouse), mapping what enters biodiversity and climate policy instruments, through which institutional configurations it arrives, and what the co-production structures behind those documents reveal about the dialogue between science and environmental governance.
